I received the Jelly2, an ultra-compact smartphone with FeliCa support.

I received the Jelly2, an ultra-compact smartphone with FeliCa support. The font is tiny and it’s hard to type. But it is compatible with Osaifu-Keitai (mobile wallet), so it could be used as a wallet.

Originally, I wasn’t going to introduce this topic here, as it has nothing to do with my astrophotography blog, but I happened to mention crowdfunding in my last entry, so I decided to put it on record.

It’s one of those crowdfunding returns that I wrote about being a pain in the ass. It was originally supposed to arrive by Christmas last year, but for some reason it got pushed back at customs, and all the backers were getting impatient wondering when it would arrive. The manufacturer is Unihertz, and we had supported them before, so we were in good hands, but the fact is that we were a little worried because of the unexpected situation.

Incidentally, the smartphone I supported last time was the “Titan” made by Unihertz, and it was a very big version with a completely different orientation from the Jelly2 (see photo below). The Titan is sometimes used as a remote control for the AZ-GTi by connecting it to the SynScan pro. However, I don’t think the Jelly2 can do that job.

Pikachu may not give you an idea of its size, so I compared it to a nail clipper. It’s pretty small, isn’t it? It’s 95mm long, 49.4mm wide, 16.5mm thick, and weighs 110g (including the battery). It’s still a mid-range model, with Android 10, Helio P60 Octa-Core SoC, 2.0GHz, and 6GB of memory.

Since I’m a member of the Tiny Things Club, I also have the Jelly Pro, the previous generation of the Jelly2, but I stopped using it soon after (laughs). This time, I still wanted the second generation because it’s smaller. The reason why I wanted to get a second generation is because it’s small and it supports mobile wallet, so I can keep it in my pocket and use Suica on my commute.

At the time I bought this phone, I wanted to keep my distance from my phone and thought that if it was small enough, I wouldn’t be able to connect to the Internet, but I don’t think I’ll be able to disconnect from my phone. I have a feeling that next time I’ll be using a big phone again (and it won’t support 5G). Well, it’s a romance. Romance (laughs)

Since this is an astrophotography blog, I forced myself to connect the ASI120MM to the Android version of ASICAP, but it didn’t recognize the camera. Maybe the screen is too small (3.0 inches, 480*854 pixels).
